Our school operated in "Secure Mode" for approximately 20 minutes on Dec. 9. We were informed by Lapeer City Police of a potential unspecified threat in the Lapeer area and advised to go into secure mode. Twenty minutes later, we were informed that a subject had been taken into custody for questioning but no further details were provided. We were permitted to end "secure mode" at that time.
Please be assured that we immediately secured the building and no direct apparent threat was observed to our students, staff, or building. We presented the situation as a lengthy secure mode drill so as to not worry the students. The safety of your children is of prime importance. For that reason, please be advised that we do not permit anyone other than staff or students into our building without permission at any time. If you need to speak with your students' teachers or assist your student in any way, please check in at the front office. Further, if we are advised to go into "secure mode," we are not allowed to release students even into their parents' care while in that mode. Thank you for helping us to ensure the safety of your students.
